Data Methodology and Sources
How we compile our price data and what makes our estimates trustworthy.
How We Compile Price Ranges
All price ranges on conservatorycost.com are compiled by triangulating multiple data sources. We do not rely on a single source, because any single source has inherent biases: vendor sites tend to quote high (to anchor expectations), comparison sites may underquote (to drive click-throughs), and trade data may lag the market.
Our methodology: for each price range, we identify the midpoint of the FMB cost index data, cross-check against the Checkatrade verified quote data for the same product category, review current Which? pricing guidance, and validate against current supplier quotes from three or more UK suppliers in each region (London/SE, Midlands, North England, Scotland). We take the range that encompasses approximately 80% of the market (excluding the top 10% premium quotes and the bottom 10% budget quotes that are often incomplete in scope).
We update prices every six months, with a full review in April and October of each year. The current data on this site is based on the April 2026 review.
Primary Sources
Federation of Master Builders (FMB) 2026 Cost Index
https://www.fmb.org.uk
The FMB publishes an annual cost index surveying member contractors across all major building trades. For conservatory and extension work, the FMB index provides regionally adjusted averages that are widely cited by consumer organisations including Which? and Homebuilding and Renovating.
Checkatrade Cost Guides
https://www.checkatrade.com/blog/cost-guides
Checkatrade publishes cost guides based on verified quotes submitted through their platform. With tens of thousands of quotes per year, the Checkatrade data provides a high-confidence average for standard conservatory types. We use Checkatrade data for style-specific and size-specific price bands.
Which? Conservatory Pricing Report
https://www.which.co.uk
Which? conducts independent assessments of conservatory prices and installer quality. Their data is used to validate our style price bands and to cross-check our material cost premiums. Which? is a subscriber-only source; we reference their published headline figures rather than their full dataset.
Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine
https://www.homebuilding.co.uk
The UK's leading self-build and home improvement publication publishes annual cost data for extensions, conservatories, and related works. We use their cost-per-square-metre data for extension comparisons and their installer surveys for regional variation factors.
MyJobQuote Cost Data
https://www.myjobquote.co.uk
MyJobQuote publishes crowd-sourced cost data from verified homeowner reports. Particularly useful for lean-to and smaller conservatory price validation, where the FMB index tends to focus on larger projects.
Supplier Price Lists (Everest, Anglian, ConservatoryLand, Ultraframe, Orangeries-UK)
Various
We review publicly available pricing from major UK conservatory and orangery suppliers as a market reference. Supplier prices are not used directly in our estimates (as they typically include significant margin), but they inform our premium-end price bands and upgrade option costs.
Planning Portal (GPDO 2015)
https://www.planningportal.co.uk
All planning permission rules cited on this site are derived from the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (as amended). The Planning Portal provides the definitive consumer-facing reference for these rules.
Approved Documents L, K, and P (HM Government, 2022)
https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/approved-documents
All building regulations information on this site references the current Approved Documents. Approved Document L (Conservation of Fuel and Power) 2022 edition, Approved Document K (Protection from Falling, Collision and Impact), and Approved Document P (Electrical Safety) are the primary references.
AECOM Energy Institute Warm Roof Efficiency Study
https://www.aecom.com
The £200/year heating cost saving figure cited in our roof options and heating pages is derived from thermal modelling published by AECOM for the warm roof industry. This figure assumes a typical 4m x 3m conservatory upgraded from polycarbonate to a Guardian or equivalent tiled warm roof, measured against current UK gas and electricity rates.
Editorial Independence Statement
conservatorycost.com is owned and operated by Digital Signet. We are an independent UK consumer information website. We have no financial relationship with any conservatory manufacturer, installer, trade body, or material supplier that affects the content of our price guides or recommendations.
We participate in affiliate programmes with comparison and lead generation platforms (including Checkatrade and similar services). Where we link to a third-party quote request service, we may earn a referral fee. These links are clearly labelled as affiliate links. The existence of an affiliate relationship does not influence our independent assessment of pricing, quality, or recommendations.
No conservatory manufacturer, installer, or supplier has paid for placement in our price guides, cost tables, or editorial content. Brand mentions in our tiled roof system comparison (Guardian, Ultraroof, SupaLite, Equinox) and glazing comparison (Pilkington, Saint-Gobain) are editorial references based on market presence, not commercial relationships.
