Conservatory Planning Permission
Good news: most conservatories don't need planning permission
Under Permitted Development rights, you can build a conservatory without planning permission if it meets certain conditions.
Permitted Development Rules
- • No more than 50% of garden area covered by extensions
- • Single storey only
- • Maximum height 4m (3m if within 2m of boundary)
- • Does not extend beyond the rear wall by more than 3m (semi/terrace) or 4m (detached)
- • Not in front of the house
- • Materials similar to existing house
When You DO Need Permission
- • Listed building - always needs consent
- • Conservation area - restrictions apply
- • Exceeds permitted development limits
- • Flat or maisonette
